I didn’t hear much, less see Callion until Friday morning when he came in and sat down at one of my tables. I went to the display case and got a muffin since I already knew what he wanted and made my way to him. When our eyes caught each other, he smiled and said, “Why hello,”

“Hello, how are you doing this morning?”

“I’ve been very busy, so I haven’t gotten the chance to come by and have my coffee and muffin. Did you miss me?”

His smile was irresistible I thought and I found myself blushing a bit by his comment. “Yeah you were missed by a bunch of women around here.”

“That’s not what I asked. I asked if you missed me.”

This was the first time since I’d known him to question me in such a manner, so forceful and direct. “Yes,” I admitted. “I did miss you.” Then, I walked away to get his coffee made before I ended up acting like a blubbering idiot.

“What was he saying to you?” Marsha asked me once I told one of the guys to make the café au lait.

“Just that he had been too busy to come in the other day and asked how I was doing.” Well, I did tell the partial truth, he did say he was busy and did ask how I was but she didn’t have to know about what else.

When his coffee was done, I went and decided to design another flower in his cream since I knew he loved flowers. I made a big daisy which I had to admit looked beautiful. As I made my way over to him, I saw some women standing in front of his table. One was talking with him while the other was giggling away like some schoolgirl, even though she was around my age. I brought over his coffee and heard the girl asking about some books.

Callion answered, “Oh, we have that book, just come by the shop around ten and I’ll show you where it is.”

I put the cup in front of him while the girl glared at me like she was shooting daggers at me for getting in the middle of them. I didn’t care and I asked him, “If you need me for anything else let me know.”

“No wait, I need to speak with you for a minute.” He grabbed my arm, which also was a first. “Please go sit down, ladies I will talk with you later. Come sit down please?”

I could hear the woman huff at me before leaving. I smiled and told him, “You know I can’t sit down with you while I’m working.”

“That’s right I’m sorry, well when is your lunch break?”

“Not until around one.”

“Come by the bookstore then, we can talk there instead of here. I wanted to talk with you about tomorrow night.”

“I’ll bring my lunch over to the shop, if that’s alright?”

“Sure, that’s fine. I’ll see you then.”

I hastily walked away, knowing that all eyes were on
